Rome: Impact of an Idea

Rome has twice been the “center of the Universe,” first as the capital of the Roman Empire, and later as the Renaissance capital of Christianity. Pope Sixtus V (1585-1590) is given much of the credit for the recreation of Rome to its Renaissance-Baroque grandeur. Thurs. Nov. 14, a free film at Memphis College of Art will take a look at his impact on the development of cities.Read more »

An Update on BSL – the details

At the request of the The TN Dept. of Transportation (TDOT), FfOR sent suggestions about ways to avoid or minimize the negative effect of Beale Street Landing on the unique historic integrity of the Memphis riverfront. We did a little research and came across some earlier plans that, with modification, just might solve the problem – give us an exciting public space at the water level, restore the Cobblestone Landing, and provide a place for commercial and private boats to dock.

In Memory of Dick Mochow

Neighbors and friends remembered Dick Mochow at this year's Forest Faire in the Vollintine-Evergreen (VECA) neighborhood.
Dick was a “pioneer volunteer” in creating the VECA Greenline, a national figure in the Sierra Club, and a supporter of Friends for Our Riverfront. This October’s Forest Faire, was the third, in what has become an annual VECA event to promote beneficial environmental practices and conservation.
