Public Lands Day
"Friends" were busy both morning and afternoon celebrating Public Lands Day, Saturday, Sept. 30, 2006.
At 8 a.m. volunteers met to clean-up Kentucky and Virginia Streets. It was dirty work, but the results were worth it. And we had the extra and unexpected treat of being filmed as part of the video “Healin ‘in the Hood.” Becky Beaton, pictured at top left, gets the kudos as organizer.
Then at 4 p.m. Sue Williams led a Sunset Walk on the Bluff to explore “the most endangered public land in the City.” The group started out at the corner of Union and Riverside, and, after about a 3 mile hike, several remained for a picnic in Confederate Park. There may not be any tables in the park, but that didn’t hamper the fun and sure didn’t dampen the beauty of the sunset.
